The case of Beckett Brennan shows another example of how hard it is to fight for what's right. She's another strong woman who will hopefully help other women who have been assaulted and haven't yet spoken about it to find their voices.

Nancy Garrido has hit a wall in her attempt to get a free pass on kidnapping Jaycee. They sure wanted to say she was just a pawn in the Phillip Garrido world, but she's been found to now have videotaped a 5 year old as well for her husbands pleasure. These sick bastards are soon going away forever. Hopefully, this case will be resolved quickly as everyone is ready to move on. Everyone stay safe out there.

Happy Holidays to all of you from Las Vegas. This blog entry is by Jim, Katie's husband.

It has been nice and quiet lately, but it's going to heat back up. There is a probable hearing the first two weeks in March for Phillip Garrido. It will determine whether he's mentally competent to stand trial. We feel confident he'll be found sane. We will continue to be sitting in the front row making sure Garrido feels as uncomfortable as possible. The judge still has not decided yet on whether he reveals the contents of Jaycee Lee Dugard's grand jury indictment. We hope he keeps it closed up until trial. It contains her testimony of the details of her kidnap and rape over all the years.

 Katie and I appreciate all of your comments here on the blog. There have been so many who have been assaulted and not spoken about it. Your voices are welcome here. You don't have to say who you are if you don't want to. Just feel free to tell your story, and hopefully it will give you some power back.

I'll be blogging along with Katie from now on hoping to speak to the men out there. We need more of us to step up to the plate and be the type of men women deserve. We need to be the protectors and not the predators.

Okay, it's been 11 months since Phillip Garrido was arrested for the kidnap and rape of Jaycee Lee Dugard.  11 months since I FOUND OUT that the man who had kidnapped and raped me, the man who has caused me to be afraid for 22 years is now back in jail.  I should be happy, right?  I should be relieved.  I should be able to throw off that old fear like an old hair coat.....but I'm not finding it that easy.  Instead I have that feeling inside that you experience when you've just barely missed being in a fatal car crash.  Do you know what I mean?  When you have to pull over to the side of the road because you can't stop shaking.  That's what I feel like everyday.  And I don't think that this feeling is going to go away until I can get some acknowledgment from the Parole Boards that I mattered at all.      It's called VICTIM'S RIGHTS.  Where are mine???

From the moment Garrido was released in 1988, to now, July 14, 2010, I have NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED by ANYONE in the parole system, STATE or FEDERAL.   I WAS NOT NOTIFIED of his pending release in 1987, I WAS NOT NOTIFIED when he was transfered from the Federal Parole System to the California State Parole System (and classified as a LOW RISK sexual offender), I WAS NOT NOTIFIED when he went back to prison in 1993 for a parole violation, and I HAVE YET TO BE NOTIFIED that he was arrested last August for the kidnap and rape of Jaycee.  I FOUND OUT FROM THE TELEVISION!!!!!  What's wrong with this picture???  Anybody????

I am so happy that Jaycee Lee Dugard and her family got some money finally.  It wasn't enough, but it is a start.  I just hope that it doesn't stop the investigation into the STATE AND FEDERAL Parole Department's failure to supervise Phillip Garrido, because there are supposedly still lots of unreleased documents and info pertaining to "HOW?" and "WHY?" and "WHO?"   If they had been doing their job correctly, then Jaycee would have been found, Garrido would have been back in jail where I PUT HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE and WHERE HE SHOULD HAVE STAYED, and I wouldn't have had to live in fear for the last 22 years.

When we went to the last hearing on June 25th, the judge granted two more 5 minute phone calls between Phillip and Nancy, to be initiated by Nancy, something they both wanted and agreed to.  Also Nancy Garrido's attorney, Stephen Tapson, said that Nancy was requesting to see Jaycee and the children 1. because she missed them (BOO-HOO) and           2. because she feels it will be traumatic for them to see her (for the first time in 10 months) in shackles, and in a courtroom setting.           Tapson then told the media later that even though it was a relationship born in evil, that it had become a loving family relationship, and he made a plea through the media to "Dr. Doe" (meaning Jaycee and the family's counselor/therapist)to consider this in respect to the minor children's emotional well-being.

This all sounds hunky-dorry if NANCY WASN'T IN COMMUNICATION WITH PHILLIP!!

But as long as Nancy is talking to Phillip it is possible for him to pass along secret or subliminal messages to Jaycee and the girls THROUGH NANCY!! And SHE may not even realize he's using her this way...he's been doing it for soo long, and she's been his willing puppet.  It's just their family dynamics.

So...as long as Phillip and Nancy are allowed to talk to each other.......

              I SAY NO!!!!

$20 MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!

We just heard the news!  California awarded JAYCEE LEE DUGARD $20,000,000!!!

AWESOME!! (It's a start!!)

It will never replace what PHILLIP GARRIDO took away from her, but at least she and her children will be OK for money now.

YAY JAYCEE!!!!!

We just spent the week-end filming in San Jose, California with MIESHA "TAKEDOWN" TATE, the MIXED MARTIAL ARTS Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist Grappler.  She is doing a SELF-DEFENSE DVD showing several very effective life-saving moves that anyone can learn (like me) to use at different stages of being assaulted.  I was very surprised at how easy they were to learn, and how EFFECTIVE they were.  I feel so EMPOWERED now...and just a little sore (ha-ha). But not as sore as my husband JIM HALL, who at the last minute was asked to participate (as the attacker!) and got thrown around by me, Miesha, AND the director ARIEL PENN.  He hopes to be out of the hospital soon!........ just kidding.  It was all under the watchful eye of "CAGEmoMMA" MICHELLE TATE SCHMIDT, Miesha's mother and MMA Manager who is as energetic outside of the cage as Miesha is inside.  Miesha was scheduled to fight Saturday night in San Jose at a STRIKEFORCE EVENT but due to a minor injury had to postpone until August 13th when she will be fighting in PHOENIX, ARIZ.  We will be ringside cheering her on to victory!!!

We also attended the latest GARRIDO hearing on Friday, where I did local media interviews and an update for KFI Talk Radio in L.A.  Just one step closer to putting  PHILLIP and NANCY GARRIDO away forever for the traumatizing kidnap and rape of JAYCEE LEE DUGARD.

I did another Issues with Jane Velez Mitchell show yesterday. She had Jaycee Lee Dugard's biological father, Ken Slayton on with his Attorney Gloria Allred.  Evidently he's trying to FORCE Jaycee to let him into her life and let him be her father with all the fatherly rights. FORCE.  Yes..FORCE.    F-O-R-C-E.    Unbelievable.  Hasn't she had enough things forced upon her in the last 18 years???  Does he not get this???  Does he not see the parallels?  I've met Ken and he seems a nice man, but he needs to take a step back, LOSE the high-profile powerful SCARY Lawyer, and think like a true caring "parent figure"....put the welfare of his biological daughter FIRST .....give her the time she needs and has asked for, and allow her the free will to make her own choices......something she has been deprived of for the last eighteen years.

I am truly surprised at GLORIA ALLRED.  Her reputation is that of being a champion of Victim's Rights.  But in this case it seems that she is very publicly adding to the distress and pain of the true victim here, Jaycee Lee Dugard.

WE are headed back up to Placerville for another hearing on June 25th. Then to San Jose, CA, to meet with MIESHA "TAKEDOWN" TATE (the MMA Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist) to collaborate on a Self-Defense Video.  I AM EXCITED!!!! The video will include Miesha interviewing me and teaching me some self-defense moves that anyone can do. April 15, we attended another pre-preliminary hearing for the Garridos in the JAYCEE LEE DUGARD case.  The judge granted them an additional two 5 minute phone calls with each other, again only to be initiated by Nancy, in case she should want to use the "battered wife" plea and not make the phone calls.  Of course, she has already initiated two phone calls, so I guess she doesn't care about that option.  Her attorney was asked afterwards what his defense for her was going to be.  He said "True Love."  HaHaHaHaHa.....Is he serious??!!!! In my interview with the media after court, I was asked what I thought about the fact that the prosecution may have evidence that Nancy was possibly "under the control" of Phillip........sorry, I'm not buying it.  She had the opportunity to do the right thing when Garrido went back to prison  on a parole violation in 1996.  She had 6 months..... 180 DAYS that she could have let Jaycee and her girls go, or walked them into a police station.  She could have DONE THE RIGHT THING  as a decent human being.  BUT SHE CHOSE NOT TO.

So anyway, the judge did set the PRELIMINARY  HEARING date (YAY, finally!) for Oct. 7th and 8th.  Jimmy and I will be there.

We just got back from Tyler, Texas where I spoke at a Crime Victim's Conference.  It was a wonderful experience.  I got to tell my story of what happened to me back in a time when there were NO victim's assistance programs or services.  So different from today.  And I was talking in front of the people who are all involved in victim's services, letting them know HOW IMPORTANT what they're doing IS.  It inspired me to want to continue speaking in front of groups that CAN and WILL make a difference.  My ACE therapist, JoAnn Behrman-Lippert agrees that I should continue on this path!  She says that it would be good for me...I know it would!!!!!!
